How to participate in Orchestra Community

Orchestra Community sets, among its objectives,  a synergic exchange between industry and research, so concretizing the philosophy animating Orchestra Control Engine: the Open Innovation, meant as the creation of innovation thanks to the integration of the Community users' contributions.

The website of Orchestra Control Engine wants to be a bridge between the industrial and the academic world, so allowing its actors to converse, confront and develop a common intellectual capital.

The first step to test Orchestra is to become a Community member : it’s very easy to do that. In effect in order to download the software you only need to Login and accept the Orchestra Community License. As a Community member it’s possible to download the software both the one delivered by Sintesi and the one shared by the Community.

To guarantee a long term compatibility between the solutions developed in various environments and in order to share advantages between all the users, Sintesi will include in the official Orchestra versions the Community contributions.

One important characteristic of the Orchestra suite is the Core Components concept. Core Components are the part of the software that Sintesi distributes in source code with the intention to always verify that modifications or new implementations will not drive Orchestra in diverging directions.

To avoid such situations Sintesi ask to the Community that possible modifications and new implementation related to the Core Components will be delivered as soon as possible to Sintesi that will evaluate them and, if needed, will integrate them in new versions of the Orchestra suite.

For the same reasons Sintesi asks to become co-owner of the modifications related to the Core Components. This request, that could seem excessive, has the objective that there is always coherence between industrial and academic versions of the Core components : the development of such components is the main goal of the Community.

From the other side, based on the Orchestra documentation, each member of the Community is free to develop Modules, in particular Motion Control Modules, and he his the owner of his realizations, even if he decides to deliver them for on commercial uses. This is coherent with the Orchestra philosophy: the Core components are the common platform to build applications while the Modules, that integrate the real Community members know how, can be distributed for free or for business. The Modules in effect are the arena for competition. In case a user intends to sell Modules no fee is due to Sintesi but such Modules have to be installed on a regular Orchestra commercial licence, available since December 2007

With the second version,  scheduled in December, a forum will be activated in which users will be able to leave their opinions and to make their contributions available for the Community.

To communicate with the team of Orchestra and to start developing your work, sharing it with the Community you can use the direct line writing to the address contact@orchestracontrol.com
